Sclerotherapy is a slightly invasive procedure that involves injecting a sclerosing solution into the diseased veins or vessels, causing them to collapse and fade away over time. This treatment addresses various vascular conditions including enlarged and twisted varicose veins, small spider veins, and abnormal lymphatic vessels.
Our physician first examines the affected veins to determine the appropriate sclerosing agent. Using a fine needle, the solution is injected into the targeted area. The procedure typically lasts 20 to 30 minutes depending on the number and size of vessels treated. Patients may experience mild stinging or cramping during injection, which quickly subsides.
You can resume normal activities immediately following treatment. You may experience some bruising, swelling, itching, or redness at the injection site, but these will fade within a few days. Compression stockings or bandages are recommended for several days to weeks to promote healing and prevent blood clots. You should avoid sun exposure, hot baths, saunas, and strenuous exercise during the recovery period.
